This is one gutsy traveller: she eats reptile soups and has visited George Clooney’s villa in Italy. And somehow she manages to stay sleek and chic on the road. Meet Aly!
Name: Aly Walansky
Age: Old enough to drink, too young to retire!
Home base: Brooklyn, New York
Number of countries visited: 21 and counting!
What I do when I’m not travelling (aka occupation): I’m a freelance journalist, focusing on various lifestyles outlets.
My next stop: Oddly enough, I have nothing on the books right now – but that can change any day! The last few months, I’ve been fortunate enough to see Italy, Australia and New Zealand!
My wildest and craziest adventure: I once fainted over barracuda-infested waters in Riveria Maya. Good times!
Weirdest thing I’ve ever eaten or drank: Turtle. I ordered snapper soup at a restaurant, dumbly assuming it was RED SNAPPER (as in fish). Turns out it was turtle. I hated myself after — but it was delicious!
I’ll never forget that time: I was in Lake Como last month, and we were so crazy – we took a motor boat out in the rain just to pass by George Clooney’s villa and wave. Couldn’t resist! He wasn’t home. Pretty sure…
Most memorable meal: I had an AMAZING meal at Da Emma in Montreal. Over a year later, I’m still thinking about their gigantic veal meatballs!
One thing on my bucket list is: London. I’ve been to some really obscure places — and I’m grateful. But I’ve never been to London and that’s where I want to visit more than anything right now!
Three things I always pack: I’m a tech junkie. My laptop and my iPad is always with me, as is my mobile hot spot and lots of chargers. Oh, and sunblock. And bug spray.
My travel advice: PLAN PLAN PLAN. I write out a detailed packing list before every trip!
