How to Upgrade to First Class on KLM (Without Spending a Fortune)

Eat Drink Travel Editor HOME November 12, 2013

KLM-TilesWhen I checked in online for my overnight flight to Amsterdam, a message suddenly popped up on my computer screen.

“Would you like to upgrade to World Business Class for $300?”

Um, yes please. I decided to take advantage of an upgrade option to World Business Class on KLM. For less than $300, I experienced comfort and luxury at its finest.

The lavishness started well before the flight departed Toronto, with granted access to the fully stocked and unlimited Heineken in the KLM-Air France departure lounge.

Next came priority boarding to the upper deck of the 747-400 airplane. I was welcomed by the Captain and crew, followed by a Viktor & Rolf gift (!).

Once I got comfy in my 175 degree reclinable sleeper seat with my very own entertainment system and a glass of champagne, the in-flight service began.  I was treated to a delicious 3-course meal with well paired wines — an experience rivalling any Niagara wine tour that I’ve taken.

After a restful 7 hour flight and a hearty breakfast, I arrived in Amsterdam, ready to explore a city known for endless canals, shopping boutiques and hot men.

So remember: the next time you check-in online, take advantage of the discounted upgrade options and you’ll never fly economy again.
